Monday morning I literally hovered over the “Apply” button for that senior analyst spot for like 20 minutes. My Taurus brain kept screaming “too risky” and “don’t rock the boat” but finally just punched that button before I could overthink it. Took me three whole evenings battling Excel and Word to rewrite my resume focusing on those “untapped skills” – ended up adding stuff like mediating team disputes and cross-departmental coordination which honestly felt weird to write but ok Susan.
Submitted everything Wednesday feeling like I might puke. Got called for an interview Friday afternoon which felt fast. Boss looked kinda shocked to see me walk in there. Felt awkward as hell answering the “why do you think you’re ready” question but pretended confidence.
The Weird Coffee Meetup
That LinkedIn message was from some recruiter at a startup I’d never heard of. Normally I’d ignore it but Susan kept nagging in my head about “networking in unexpected places.” Met the guy Thursday at this noisy coffee shop downtown. Turns out his company makes software for exactly the project I’d been struggling with all month. He wasn’t even hiring but gave me some free troubleshooting advice that actually worked. Go figure.
Not Being A Total Brick Wall
Friday during our team meeting Jenny from marketing suggested this totally out-there collaboration idea. My gut reaction was “sounds messy and complicated, hard pass.” But I remembered the horoscope saying Tauruses resist change like bulls resist red flags. So instead of shutting it down I said “Walk me through how that could work?” Felt unnatural but productive. Still not sold but at least I didn’t bulldoze it.
So Where’s It At Now?
Zero clue if I got the promotion. Still hate uncertainty. That recruiter guy sent me two other contacts who might need help. The social thing didn’t magically get me a job but hey, solving that problem was worth the awkward coffee chat. Keeping my mouth shut more and listening at meetings? Actually feels kinda ok. Still think horoscopes are a bit wild but gotta admit this forced me out of my lazy Taurean pasture a few times.
