So this morning I actually tried following my Taurus horoscope career advice. Gotta admit, was pretty skeptical when I first read it – “set firm boundaries at work” sounds easier said than done.
Here’s exactly how my day went down:
Woke up around 7, grabbed coffee while scrolling horoscope apps like usual. Saw today’s big tip was about saying “no” more often. Immediately thought “yeah right” cause my desk looks like a paperwork tornado hit it.
- Took out my work notebook during breakfast
- Wrote down 3 things I always say yes to but shouldn’t
- Highlighted “covering Dave’s reports” in bright yellow
At the office, our department head dropped this urgent project on my desk at 10:15am. Normally I’d just bottle up my anger and do it. But today? I actually pointed at my overflowing inbox and said “Can’t take this til Thursday”. My manager’s eyebrows damn near flew off his forehead.
Lunch break rolls around and Dave – yep that same Dave – slides over asking about his monthly analytics thing. I literally kept chewing my sandwich while shaking my head no. Told him “Nah man, you gotta handle your own workload starting this month.” Guy looked like I’d stolen his stapler.
Ended up staying late anyway cause old habits die hard. But get this – only worked on MY deadlines for once. Felt weird not being everyone’s fixer. Left 40 minutes later than usual but wasn’t drowning in other people’s crap.
What actually worked:
- Prep work at home made rejecting requests less scary
- Got away with saying “I’m swamped” twice by showing my task list
- Dave finally submitted his OWN report at 4:57pm
What backfired:
- Got called into HR around 3pm (they just wanted coffee chat phew)
- My palms got crazy sweaty during first rejection
- Still feel sorta guilty about that project delay
Final score? Three successful “no”s vs. zero meltdowns. Horoscope advice sorta works but man does confrontation feel gross. Gotta practice this boundary thing more. Maybe yell “NO” into my cereal tomorrow morning.
